Dr. Sara Koenig
Dr. Sara Koenig, MD, MBA, is the Medical Director at Green Hill. Dr. Koenig will provide and supervise direct medical care for all our clients, and help us to continue to build a truly integrated and integrative medicine practice. Sara brings years of training and experience in traditional clinical management of addictions and co-occurring disorders to the Green Hill team.
Dr. Koenig graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill in 2006, and is triple board certified in Addiction Medicine, Clinical Pathology and Transfusion Medicine. She has held various positions as an addiction medicine physician, clinical faculty member at multiple universities, and medical director. Inspired by the transformations she witnessed in patients receiving compassionate, integrated treatment for addiction and mental health disorders, Dr. Koenig decided to re-dedicate her career to the cross-disciplinary specialty of Addiction Medicine.
Returning to Chapel Hill, Dr. Koenig worked as an Addiction Medicine physician at Piedmont Health Systems, providing consulting for the UNC ECHO project on opioid addiction treatment, and presenting at community-based and academic forums. She obtained advanced training in medical and behavioral treatment of substance use disorders, chronic pain, and commonly co-occurring psychiatric conditions at University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.
Sara now owns her own private practice, Triangle Wellness & Recovery. She is a national consultant on the topics of addiction and harm reduction and is a member of both the American Society for Addiction Medicine (ASAM) and the American Association of Addiction Psychiatry (AAAP).
Dr. Koenig works toward a vision of providing personalized, evidence-based integrative care for substance use disorders, behavioral addictions, and chronic pain in a compassionate and innovative multidisciplinary setting.
