Dr. R. Dewayne Book

Dr. R. Dewayne Book serves as the Chief Medical Officer of Advaita Health, overseeing medical services across Green Hill Recovery and Advaita Integrated Medicine. He joined the organization in 2022 and brings more than 30 years of experience treating individuals with a wide range of psychiatric and addictive disorders.

Dr. Book specializes in addiction medicine and psychiatry, drawing on his background in neurobiology and biochemistry to understand and address the complex interplay of brain chemistry and behavior. His comprehensive, patient-centered approach integrates medication management, psychotherapy, patient education, and social support network development. He also provides Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) at Advaita Integrated Medicine, offering an evidence-based treatment option for patients with treatment-resistant depression.

Dr. Book earned his medical degree from Mercer University School of Medicine in Macon, Georgia, and completed his residency in psychiatry at Duke University Medical Center, where he was recognized as Outstanding Resident of the Year.

Throughout his career, Dr. Book has held multiple leadership roles, including Medical Director positions at leading addiction and behavioral health programs. He has been recognized with the ROCK Sleyster Scholarship from the American Medical Association and the Fredrick B. Glaser Award from the Governor’s Institute. He has also served as President of the North Carolina Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM), as a guest editor for the North Carolina Medical Journal, and as adjunct faculty at Duke University Medical Center.
