Addiction Treatment & Mental Health for Adults in Raleigh, NC – Green Hill Recovery

Yes. Green Hill Recovery is in-network with most major commercial insurance providers.

It’s a reflection of what we believe treatment should be. Expert, evidence-based care shouldn’t be accessible only to people who can pay out of pocket. Being in-network with a variety of insurance providers makes our expert care more accessible for our Raleigh community.

Insurance is the question that stops most people from making the call — not because they don’t want help, but because they don’t know what treatment is going to cost, they’re not sure what their plan covers, and they’d rather not start a conversation they can’t finish.

This page answers that question directly — what Green Hill accepts, how verification works, what the process looks like, and what options exist for people paying out of pocket.

What Insurance Does Green Hill Accept?

Green Hill Recovery is in-network with most major commercial insurance providers. In-network plans currently accepted include:

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield
  • Aetna
  • United Health
  • Cigna
  • Ambetter
  • Medcost
  • Tricare
  • And additional carriers — call the admissions team to confirm your specific plan

Being in-network matters because it means Green Hill has a contracted rate with your insurer. Out-of-network treatment can still be covered under some plans, but in-network coverage typically means lower out-of-pocket costs and a more straightforward authorization process.

Green Hill does not currently accept Medicaid or Medicare.

What Does Insurance Cover for PHP and IOP?

This is where most insurance pages on treatment program websites get vague — and where people are left with more questions than they started with. Here’s a plain explanation of how coverage works for outpatient addiction treatment.

What PHP and IOP Are Billed As

PHP and IOP are billed as outpatient behavioral health services. Most commercial insurance plans are required to cover behavioral health treatment — including substance use disorder treatment — at parity with medical and surgical benefits. This is a federal requirement under the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act.

In practice, that means your insurer cannot impose more restrictive limitations on substance use treatment than it does on comparable medical care. If your plan covers outpatient medical treatment, it is required to cover outpatient addiction treatment under the same terms.

What Varies by Plan

Even within the same insurer, coverage specifics vary significantly depending on your individual plan. The variables that affect what you pay out of pocket include:

  • Deductiblehow much you pay before insurance begins covering costs
  • Copay or coinsurance — your share of the cost per session or per day after the deductible is met
  • Out-of-pocket maximum — the most you’ll pay in a given plan year before insurance covers 100%
  • Prior authorization — whether your insurer requires approval before treatment begins, and what clinical documentation is needed to obtain it
  • Level of care coverage — whether your specific plan covers PHP, IOP, or both, and at what reimbursement rate

These details are specific to your plan and can’t be determined without verifying your benefits directly. That’s what the Green Hill admissions team does before treatment begins.

How Does Insurance Verification Work at Green Hill?

The admissions team verifies insurance benefits as part of the intake process — before treatment starts and before anyone is asked to commit to anything financially.

Here’s what that process looks like:

  1. You provide your insurance information — carrier, member ID, group number — either by calling the admissions team directly or through the admissions page at greenhillrecovery.com/admissions
  2. The admissions team contacts your insurer to verify your specific benefits for PHP and IOP, including deductible status, copay or coinsurance amounts, prior authorization requirements, and any plan-specific limitations
  3. You receive a clear explanation of what your plan covers, what your estimated out-of-pocket costs are, and what the authorization process looks like before treatment begins

The goal is to make sure there are no surprises. Cost uncertainty is one of the most common reasons people delay treatment — and it’s one that can be resolved with a single conversation before any commitment is made.

To start the verification process, call the admissions team directly or visit greenhillrecovery.com/admissions. (can insert a button to the verify insurance page)

What If I Have a High Deductible or Significant Out-of-Pocket Costs?

Having insurance doesn’t always mean treatment feels financially accessible. High deductible plans, significant coinsurance, or deductibles that haven’t yet been met can make the out-of-pocket portion feel like a barrier even when coverage exists.

A few things worth knowing:

Deductibles reset annually

If your deductible resets in January and you’re considering treatment in the fall, timing matters. Starting treatment before year-end means applying costs toward a deductible that’s already partially or fully met. Starting in January means beginning again from zero.

Out-of-pocket maximums provide a ceiling

Once you’ve met your plan’s out-of-pocket maximum for the year, your insurer covers 100% of covered services for the remainder of the plan year. If you’ve had other medical expenses during the year, you may be closer to that ceiling than you realize.

HSA and FSA funds can be used for treatment

If you have a Health Savings Account or Flexible Spending Account, those funds can be applied toward addiction treatment costs including copays, coinsurance, and deductibles.

The admissions team can walk through the financial specifics with you once benefits are verified — including what the costs look like at different points in the deductible year.

What If I Don’t Have Insurance or My Plan Isn’t Accepted?

Green Hill works with private pay for people whose insurance isn’t accepted or who prefer to pay out of pocket. Private pay rates and payment options are discussed directly with the admissions team as part of the intake conversation.

If you’re unsure whether your plan is accepted, the fastest way to find out is to call. The admissions team can confirm in-network status, verify benefits, and walk through private pay options in the same conversation — so you have a complete picture of what’s financially possible before making any decisions.

Green Hill’s Insurance Standing

Green Hill Recovery was recognized as a 2026 Center of Excellence by Evernorth Behavioral Health — a designation awarded to programs that meet rigorous standards for clinical quality and treatment outcomes. This recognition reflects the kind of clinical program that major insurers evaluate favorably when making coverage and authorization decisions.

In Green Hill’s 2025 outcomes data, 84% of patients showed measurable improvement in risk factor scores over the course of treatment, and 85% of patients who entered already in remission maintained that remission throughout PHP or IOP. These are the numbers that matter to insurers — and the numbers that matter to people trying to make a decision about where to get help.

The Fastest Way to Find Out What You’re Covered For

The insurance question doesn’t have to be a reason to wait. Benefits verification is a quick process, it doesn’t require a commitment to treatment, and it gives you a clear picture of what’s financially possible before any decisions are made.

Green Hill was built by people who got into this work to help — which means the admissions conversation isn’t a sales call. Whether you know exactly what you need or you’re still figuring it out, the team is there to help you understand your options and find the right fit, not to push you toward a decision you’re not ready to make.

Call the admissions team directly or click the button below to get started. The conversation is confidential and there’s no obligation to enroll.
